Why we built this—

It’s a win-win for our users and our business

👨‍💻 We built it for our users

  1. A more engaging trading experience

  2. More customization and flexibility

💰 We built it for our business

  1. Expanding market reach & user base

  2. Strengthening company’s competitive edge

Before jumping into the design details, let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture—how cryptocurrency trading works and what the company (Crypto-Arsenal) does.

What is cryptocurrency trading?

It usually requires traders to trade manually, and be knowledgeable about the crypto industry.

So Trading Bots / Strategies come to the market, making the trading process easier for traders.

What does Crypto-Arsenal (CA) do?

Crypto-Arsenal is a platform for automated crypto trading.

We make it easier for traders to trade, more effective for developers to develop.

However, we noticed that

Not all users have expertise or time to monitor and fine-tune their trading bots.

If we develop copy trading feature, traders can directly replicate the positions of lead traders, enabling a smooth and effortless trading experience with reduced risk and greater confidence.

Our unique solutions

We designed an integrated copy trading platform that addresses 3 key user pain points with 3 targeted design solutions

Pain Point 1

Copy trading requires multiple disconnected platforms

Traders rely on separate platforms—social media for insights, private groups for signals, and trading platforms for execution—leading to delays and inefficiencies.

Solution 1

Explore to execute: All-in-one copy trading platform

Provide a fully integrated platform that streamlines the entire experience—from exploring lead traders to executing copy trades with strategies —all in one place.

Pain Point 2

Lack of classification for strategies and benefits

Lead traders can’t easily categorize their trading bots and benefits, limiting their copy traders’ access to tailored options.

Solution 2

Tiered membership for better strategy access

A tiered membership system allows lead traders to provide exclusive strategies and benefits, while copy traders gain access to strategies that match their needs.

Pain Point 3

No centralized space for trader communication

They lack a central platform designed for building relationships, instead relying on external social media and private groups to connect.

Solution 3

A built-in community hub for seamless trader interaction

Allow lead traders and copy traders to connect, share information, and build trust without needing external platforms.

With the solutions outlined, let’s step back and walk through the entire design process—starting with user research and leading to the final implementation.

User Research

To gather direct insights from our potential users, I interviewed 3 lead traders and 3 copy traders about their current experience with copy trades.

I identified 3 key user needs:

💡

Integrated Marketplace

💬

Communication Space

I wish there was a space where I could easily share trading tips and communicate with my copy traders.
— Lead Trader A
I want to offer exclusive strategies to traders who’ve been loyal followers.
— Lead Trader B

🎯

Tailored Trading Bots

Having to use multiple platforms for copy trading feels inefficient.
— Copy Trader A
I want strategies that match my level, but it’s hard to find tailored options.
— Copy Trader B

I also analyzed competitors—other platforms that facilitate crypto trading

Trading View

eToro

Gate.io

I found that they barely focus on building connections between lead traders and their copy traders, which is really important because traders only do copy trades if they trust the lead traders.

Our Challenges

How might we create an integrated marketplace that fosters the connections between lead traders and copy traders with dedicated communication space and tailored strategies?

Feature Prioritization

Given limited time and resources, we prioritized and mapped out the essential features and structure first

Main User Flow 1

Traders select a lead trader’s store and join the membership

Key Iteration for User Flow 1

I prioritized data-driven information for clearer store performance, making better use of limited card space

Main User Flow 2

After joining the membership, traders select a strategy, add it to their watchlist, and trade with it

Key Iteration for User Flow 2

I switched to a vertical layout to enhance readability and emphasize the CTA button (“Add to watchlist”), making key information more accessible

Main User Flow 3

Lead traders publish a strategy to their store

Key Iteration for User Flow 3

In the original flow, when users wanted to publish a strategy to the store, they had to first navigate to a separate page that listed all of their strategies and then select the one they wanted to publish.

During user testing, we found that this process disrupted the user experience, and the page switch caused unnecessary confusion

So we redesigned the flow to allow users to complete the entire process directly on the store page

Iteration

Before - directed to another page

After - open a same-page modal

Final Designs

Impact

🎉 We successfully attracted over 10 teams of lead traders within the first two weeks of launch and secured an average of 40+ trades daily.

Takeaways

  1. Balance between the limitations of resources and the deliverables.

  2. Communicate with cross-functional partners timely and think from different perspectives, e.g. consider the technical constraints, create clear design specs.

  3. Always keep users’ problems and goal in mind while looking for solutions and designing.
